The YOU-POD project

The project “Youth of the EU: Participation for Democracy!” (YOU-POD) is funded under the European program Citizens, Rights, Equality, and Values (CERV). YOU-POD engages around 100 students from three high schools in Trento, Mouchard (France), and Łódź (Poland) in activities focused on the European Union, new media literacy, and youth participation in democratic life.

Co-financed by the European Union, the project is carried out in collaboration with the Lycée des Métiers du Bois in Mouchard and the Europejska Fundacja Rozwoju Człowieka, a non-profit organization based in Łódź.

the activities

Through a series of training activities and workshops, students will gain in-depth knowledge about the European Union and its significant impact on our daily lives. Additionally, thanks to the collaboration with experts and professionals in the field, young people will have the opportunity to explore various areas of public communication (journalism, radio, podcasting, and new media) and engage in the recording of a podcast, allowing them to express their views on youth participation and share their experiences with a wider audience.

Webinar “EU History and Institutions”

On November 28, 2024, we kicked off the first webinar aimed at exploring the European Union in more depth, hosted by Pietro Sala and Alessia Bonafini. Participants learned about the history of European integration and how EU institutions work.

Webinar “EU Policies and Opportunities for Youth”

On January 23, 2025, Francesco Cafarelli and Chiara Peverelli from the Antonio Megalizzi Foundation hosted a webinar focused on European citizenship. The session covered key EU policies, including migration, economic policy, and the environment. It also explored the rights associated with EU citizenship and presented the opportunities the EU offers to young people, such as Erasmus+, the European Solidarity Corps, and DiscoverEU.

Workshop “Radio and Journalism”

In February and March 2025, Caterina Moser, communication manager at the Antonio Megalizzi Foundation, and Andrea Fioravanti, editor-in-chief of Linkiesta, met with students in Mouchard, Trento, and Łódź for a workshop on radio and journalism.

Through training sessions and practical activities, participants had the opportunity to explore the history of journalism and radio, as well as the role they play in the current information landscape.

Workshop “New media and Podcasting”

In March and April 2025, the journey into media knowledge and the fundamentals of quality information continued with a workshop on new media and podcasting. The activities were conducted in Mouchard, Trento, and Łódź by Emma Bonutti, PhD candidate in Sociology at Sciences Po and the Institut Polytechnique in Paris, and Cecilia Passarella, journalist and speaker at Sanbaradio.

Getting involved: a survey by students for students

Following the in-person workshops, the classes involved in the project will collaborate to design and carry out a survey on young people’s participation in democratic life and the media channels they most frequently use to stay informed about events in Europe and to shape their opinions.

Let’s come together: YOU-POD study visit in Trento

We look forward to YOU-POD study visit, a three-day event dedicated to podcasting and discussions about youth participation. In September 2025, Italian, Polish, and French students will meet in Trento to get to know each other and work on producing a podcast about their perceptions of democratic participation. All activities will be coordinated by the Antonio Megalizzi Foundation in collaboration with Cooperativa Mercurio.
